About - Cllr Michael French

Great Yarmouth has been my home for my entire adult life. Coming from a military family and spending 30 years as a public servant here in Norfolk, this community has shaped who I am.

I began policing in 1990 as a Constable in Great Yarmouth, later serving across Gorleston, Belton, Fritton, Caister, Martham and the surrounding villages. I returned as a Sergeant leading a team on the frontline — supporting residents, tackling local issues, and working closely with our communities.

My career also took me to Norfolk Headquarters, where I worked on improving efficiency across policing, and for 25 years I served on the Firearms Response Team and Royalty Protection Unit, protecting the Royal Family and visiting politicians.

Today, I’m standing with Great Yarmouth First because I believe our Borough deserves better — better services, better value for money, and a council that puts residents first. My experience has always been rooted in service, and that’s exactly what I intend to continue.

My Priorities

To extend and improve the cycle/Pathway to include benches and picnic stops around the Angles Way walk in Burgh Castle

For local residents and holiday makers to enjoy Breydon Water views

A recycling scheme where large refuse items are collected free (currently pay per item)

Will be limited per household to prevent fly tipping in our countryside.

Road improvement Market Road Bradwell to Burgh Castle

To improve a poor road with creeping grass verges and overhanging trees that has an increased high volume of traffic with large vehicles.

Improvement of pathways around Bradwell

Constant road works and service supplies have left our pathways around Bradwell in a hazardous condition for residents.

Highway improvement in Bradwell on Beccles Road junction Church Lane/Long Lane traffic lights and Primrose Way junction

A bottleneck occurs every morning during the school run. We would commission a full Highways study to implement a solution.
